Like embers of a campfire, light lingers
on the peaks of Yosemite. Andrea Lyman remembers that in the early 1980's, soon after Stephen painted Yosemite Alpenglow, he briefly reproduced it as a full-color poster and sent it to park ranger personnel to check for accuracy. At first, some rangers thought it was a photograph because of its incredible level of clarity and detail. Then they noticed the valley was free of roads and buildings--as pristine and awe-inspiring as it must have been at its creation millennia ago. |
