In a springtime lull in the fighting in 1863,
Jackson yearned to hold his infant
daughter, Julia, whom he had never seen. "How I would love to see the
little
darling," he wrote his wife. "I am thankful that she is so bright and
knowing.
I do wish I could see her funny little ways, and hear her 'squel out with
delight'..."
A visit was arranged, and on April 20th, his
wife Anna and baby Julia arrived by
rail at Guiney's Station south of Fredericksburg.
