To celebrate next year's 100th anniversary of the
publication of The Wonderful
Wizard of Oz, Scott Gustafson has created this enchanting panorama. From
the
blue Munchkin land in the west to the yellow Winkie kingdom in the east,
Scott
dots the landscape with more than a dozen memorable Oz characters.
The
mustachioed Munchkin you see on the lower left is modeled on author L.
Frank
Baum himself. Baum liked to be called the Royal Historian of Oz, and
accordingly
Scott titles the hefty tome he's holding the "Royal History of Oz." (That's
the
whimsical wizard making a courtly bow on its cover.) Take this moment now
to
stroll down your yellow brick road of memories, and see how many Ozites you
can
name. (We're sure you'll start with Dorothy. Did you notice that she isn't
wearing
ruby slippers? The original book and the 1939 film varied in quite a few
ways...)
